WEEDSPORT, NY (August 31, 2026) – The 12th edition of the prestigious Sportsman Classic 75, presented by Stirling Lubricants, will take place this Sunday, September 6 as part of the Cavalcade Cup at Weedsport Speedway.
Once again, a pivotal stop on the DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series schedule, the Sportsman Classic 75 will pay a lucrative $2,500 to the winner.
Previous champions include James Michael Friesen, Dave Marcuccilli, Ronnie Davis III, Jackson Gill, Zachary Payne, Cody McPherson, Richard Murtaugh III and most recently, Emmett Waldron.
While Waldron has made the move to 358-Modified competition in 2026, former winners McPherson and Murtaugh are expected to be back in action as well as current Sportsman Series leader, Tristan Ladouceur.
Ladouceur took third in the Sportsman Classic one year ago, after starting from the pole position, and currently leads Murtaugh in the series title hunt by just 26 points.
Bodie Marks, Derrick McGrew Jr. and Taylor Wason currently fill the top five in the series points standings. McGrew is one of three drivers to have won a championship series event so far this season, joining McPherson and Tony Finch II.
The remainder of the top ten in the points standings as of August 25 are Nigel Pendykoski, Cody Manitta, Jessica Power, Nick Brundige and Bryan Preville. Utica-Rome Speedway track champion, David Hackett, is knocking on the door step of the top ten and is one of 16 drivers to have made starts in all three championship points events to this juncture.
Sunday’s Sportsman Classic 75 will be just the third Sportsman event of the season at Weedsport, with Hunter Hollenbeck and Finch II having previously visited Victory Hill this season. Mike Fowler, Murtaugh and Frank Guererri join Finch II and Hollenbeck as top points earners at The Port across those two events.
The Sportsman Classic will of course be joined by the Super DIRTcar Series Cavalcade Cup 100, paying $10,000 to win. The nimble NY6A Microsprints will also join the racing card.
