WEEDSPORT, NY (April 24, 2026) – The New York State STOP-DWI Program, funded through a grant from the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC), is proud to partner with Weedsport Speedway to promote safe and responsible driving throughout the racing season.
This partnership aims to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and encourage race fans, drivers, and community members to make safe choices behind the wheel. Through public address announcements, signage, and fan engagement initiatives at the track, the campaign will deliver a clear message: plan ahead and never drive impaired.
“Events like those held at Weedsport Speedway bring communities together,” said Tracy Mance, NYS STOP DWI Foundation Chair. “By working with local venues, we can reach more people with lifesaving reminders to always have a plan before consuming alcohol or drugs.”
The STOP-DWI Program reminds attendees to designate a sober driver, use a rideshare or taxi service, stay overnight or arrange safe transportation in advance, and look out for family and friends. Know that local law enforcement agencies will continue to actively enforce DWI laws to help keep roadways safe for everyone.
“We’re excited to partner with STOP-DWI to help spread this important message,” said Weedsport Speedway promoter, Jimmy Phelps. “Safety doesn’t stop at the track—it continues on the road home.”
This initiative is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with a grant administered by the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
NYS STOP-DWI will be the present Weedsport Speedway’s season opening Icebreaker 50 on Sunday, May 3. The night’s action will feature a $5,000 to win DIRTcar Big Block Modified special along with DIRTcar Sportsman and the Empire Street Stock Series. Visit HERE or more information!
