WEEDSPORT, NY (July 27, 2026) – Three-time Super DIRTcar Series champion, Mat Williamson, had his way with Weedsport Speedway over the weekend, driving to back-to-back DIRTcar Modified main event wins as part of the Empire State Challenge.
Following a 35-lap triumph on Saturday evening, Williamson started from the pole position on Sunday night and sped to another 35-lap score worth $3,000. Matt Sheppard put on a late race drive to try and overcome Williamson, but it was not meant to be as Mat & Matt topped Zach Payne on the podium.
A total of 22 cars took the green flag on Sunday with Williamson and Payne gunning from the front row following a six car redraw.
Williamson would prove to be the man to beat from the drop of the green, leading all 35-laps with Sheppard eventually rolling to the runner-up position after starting third. Jimmy Phelps would chase the front three of Williamson, Sheppard and Payne across the stripe at race’s end with Dave Marcuccilli finishing the top five.
Following a dismal start to his night on Saturday, Tim Fuller rebounded to finish sixth on Sunday followed by Justin Haers, Alex Payne, Darren Smith and Ronnie Davis III in the top ten.
Phelps, Payne and Sheppard won Sunday qualifying heats.
Modifieds return to Weedsport on Sunday, August 16 for the opening round of Super DIRTcar Series SummerFAST as the Super DIRTcar Series will be joined by DIRTcar Sportsman and Mod Lites.
However, Weedsport Speedway returns to action on Saturday, August 1 for the FX Caprara Car Companies All-American Rodeo Port City Stampede. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association will be featured throughout the day, competing in a series of rough stock and timed events.
