WEEDSPORT, NY (August 31, 2026) – Despite the threat of rain for most of the afternoon, Weedsport Kartway and its racers persevered, getting through the entirety of the Short Port Shootout racing program with Gene Gregoric and Owen Alger topping PRO action.
Gregoric started from the pole position in the PRO Clone 375 main event and led every lap in dominant fashion behind the wheel of the No. 118. Gregoric pocketed $500 for the win, which was his first career victory at Weedsport. Trailing by some 3.5-seconds at the finish was a returning Nick McGill followed by Seth Whitney in podium positions.
A total of 11 PRO Clone 375 karts were on hand as they prepare for next month’s James Shutts Memorial on Sunday, September 20.
Owen Alger had a perfect afternoon at Weedsport on Sunday in Green Clone, as he swept the entire day’s action. Alger set fast time and won Green points, while also setting quick time and leading all the way in PRO Green.
Clark McGruder and Maximus Wallace gave chase behind Alger in the points event, while McGruder and Michael Kapuscinski sat on the podium in Green PRO.
Clone Heavy and Clone Light saw their best turnout of the season on Sunday, but it was again Seth Whitney taking victory. Whitney swept both 25-lap features, running his career senior win count at Weedsport up to 49.
Whitney bested John Palmieri and Matt Veidheffer in Clone Light, while he topped McGill and Dylan Mottoshiski in Clone Heavy.
Jr. Red Clone saw Colton Baldwin lead a good portion of the event before points leader Julian Gamble took over for the win. Baldwin held on for second ahead of Brantley Waldron, Bryce Bartlett and Austin Shutts.
Mason Sharts continued his winning ways across the state in Jr. Purple Clone with yet another win in the No. 10. Mason Kiah rolled across the line in second followed by Ethan St. Martin and Chase Faucett.
It would be Kaleb Kiah topping Blue Clone on Sunday over Landon Levey and Laina Stewart.
Chloe Baldwin earned her first Weedsport win on Sunday in Rookie Red Clone, taking the 10-lap win over Grayson Neal and Emory Kiah.
Weedsport Kartway will return to action on Sunday, September 20 for the James Shutts Memorial. The day’s action will see $1,022 to win for PRO Clone 390, $500 to win in PRO Clone 375 and $100 to win in PRO Blue Clone. Rookie Red Clone as well as all seven points classes will also take to the track.
