Josh Richards had a near perfect night at the Weedsport Speedway on Tuesday for the second edition of the Finger Lakes 40. The current World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series points leader padded his lead with an impressively dominating performance in the Series’ lone stop in New York this season.
Craftsman World of Outlaw Late Models Invade for only New York State 2016 appearance. Just one month ago Weedsport Speedway opened the doors for the 2016 Season with a huge Craftsman World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event. Fans and competitors were treated to a host of entertainment upgrades, most notably the addition of all new LED track lighting as well as a huge megatron behind Victory Hill where fans can watch live action, instant replays, and live pit reports.
Weedsport Speedway is putting the final touches on what will sure to be a star-studded, action packed summer of racing. The action kicks off on Sunday, May 22 with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returning for the Empire State Challenge. This event will also include the first round of the 2016 “Sportsman Shootout Series”, which will include a total of 9 sportsman events.
The World of Outlaw Sprint Cars invade Central New York for the final time in 2015 on Sunday, October 25th as the grand Finale of Weedsport’s inaugural “Last Call Weekend.” Action begins Friday, October 23rd as the DIRTcar 358 series crowns its Champion on “Victory Hill” at the conclusion of the 125 lap 358 Modified Main event.
Shane Clanton drives car No. 25, but on Tuesday night at Weedsport Speedway, he was No. 1 all the way. From setting the fastest time in time trials with a new track record to winning his qualifying heat race and picking the pole in the redraw, the Zebulon, Georgia racer led the Finger Lakes 40 flag-to-flag and came out on top in everything when the World of Outlaws Late Model Series completed its Great Northern Tour.
Attention Race Teams and Fans: The Route 34 bridge immediately south of the NYS Thruway Weedsport – Auburn – NY Route 34 Exit 40 is under repair with one lane access via stop light. This will cause delays in the traffic pattern.
For Tim McCreadie, Weedsport Speedway is turning into “a small Taj Mahal.” The Watertown racer said the old Weedsport track was a great racing venue, but he credited owner Allan Heinke and manager Jimmy Phelps with having both the racing knowledge and the financial wherewithal to make it even better.
For the first time in 22 years, there was a World of Outlaws sprint car in victory lane at Weedsport Speedway, and it belonged to Donny Schatz. Schatz put his No. 15 car on the pole for Sunday night’s Empire State Challenge by virtue of winning the 12-lap dash and kept it there through the 35-lap feature, leading every single lap en route to the victory.
When the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and the DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds take to Weedsport Speedway for the Empire State Challenge Sunday, May 17, Stewart Friesen will appear in the fields of both races. The three-time Syracuse 200 winner is slated to compete in the No. 33 Doug Emery Motorsports entry in the sprint car feature and then drive Tom Cullen’s No. 1 Westmoreland Golf Course big-block modified.
The World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series will return to Weedsport Speedway for the first time since 1993, but when drivers and fans alike head to the three-eighths mile clay oval, they will see a completely renovated, state-of-the-art racing facility.
