WEEDSPORT, NY (May 19, 2025) – A wet and dreary Sunday afternoon couldn’t slow down Weedsport Kartway, as officials and teams worked together to complete the entire Kart Cup program with Tanner Emmons once again finding victory lane in PRO Clone 375, worth $1,500.
While Emmons dominated the April Spring Meltdown, this time he capitalized on misfortune for early race leader, Seth Whitney, who dropped out of the event with mechanical issues on the races ninth circuit. Emmons, who started in the third position, assumed the race lead and sped away to a 2-second victory in his No. 22T over Trent Smith, Riley Begy, Chris Natoli and Seth Perrin.
The victory for Emmons was his second PRO score of the season and fourth overall win this year, giving him nine career senior victories at the Weedsport Kartway oval.
Despite Whitney’s misfortune in the PRO main, the driver of the No. 505 did score a pair of points victories in Clone Light and Clone Heavy. Whitney outdueled Emmons in Light and Begy in Heavy and now stands in a tie for first in the standings in each class with Emmons.
Whitney’s career win total now stands at 28, as he continues to close on the all-time mark of 34 held by Jared John.
Trent Smith once again stood tall in Clone Super Heavy on Sunday, leading wire to wire over Mitchell Schreffler and Dana Hugg.
A large field of junior entries saw three first time winners on Sunday.
Starting from the fifth position, Brantley Smith worked his way through the field for his first career win in a stout field of nine Jr. Red Clone entries. Smith was able to leap ahead of early leader Clark McGruder on a late race restart. Maximus Wallace, Michael Kapuscinski and point leader Harloe Russell finished the top five.
After two years of trying, Eli Reid finally found victory lane at Weedsport, as he scored the victory in Jr. Green Clone. Reid finished ahead of opening day winner Lily Walters, Nolan Schroy and Jackson Knight. Reid topped of his day by also scoring the win in PRO Jr. Green Clone.
Jr. Purple Clone saw the kartway’s third first time winner in Mason Kiah. Despite starting seventh, Kiah found his way to the lead and edged Laina Stewart at the line by only .5-seconds. Mason Sharts took third with Harper Waite and Chandler Remp filling the top five.
While Sharts just made the podium in Purple points, he rebounded for the win in PRO Purple ahead of Stewart, who had a pair of runner-up finishes on the day.
Joey Surman once again swept Jr. Blue Clone on the afternoon, winning both the points and PRO main events in his No. 3J. Surman topped Parker Allen and Timmy Axton in both features.
With his victories Surman now vaults to second on the kartway’s all-time junior win list with 14, and also becomes the winningest driver in Jr. Blue history at Weedsport.
The Rookie Red Clone division was once again split into an A and B feature with a high number of entries. Alex Nutting would go on to score the win in the A with Kingsley Gould taking the checkered flag first in the B.
Weedsport Kartway’s next event will take place on Sunday, June 22. All points classes will again be in action, as well as Jr. PRO, Rookie Red and the $1,000 to win PRO Clone 375 Pencils Down Showdown finale.
